Medium- and heavy-duty trucks are essential to Vermont’s economy. From hauling goods to plowing roads, these vehicles perform a wide range of critical functions in every corner of the state. That’s why VTEN is working to ensure that Vermont’s transportation energy policies account for the unique challenges and needs of commercial fleets.
Unlike a typical family car or crossover, trucks and buses operate under demanding conditions, on varied terrain, and across long duty cycles. A one-size-fits-all solution won’t work. Whether it’s a delivery truck navigating rural backroads, a school bus climbing mountain grades, or a milk hauler operating in sub-zero temperatures, different vehicle types require different technologies and fuels.
At VTEN, we’re building a coalition of energy providers, farmers, loggers, fleet managers, and technical experts focused on practical, cost-effective strategies to reduce emissions—without undermining reliability or affordability. That includes analysis to ensure policymakers understand the real-world economics that drive decision-making in this sector.
Vermont’s emissions goals aren’t going away—but neither are the economic realities facing truck operators, municipalities, and businesses. VTEN is here to make sure both are part of the conversation.
